Mavericks Turn Back New York, 5-3
|
Maui Mavericks starter Jack Flaherty pitched effectively against the New York Thunder Choppers at The Landing Pad. The right-hander spearheaded his team's 5-3 win. Earning the save was Kenley Jansen. He's now cashed in 30 of 35 save opportunities. The Division 1-leading Mavericks are 81-54.
Maui third baseman Manny Machado had a key at-bat for the Mavericks in the top of the third inning. Facing New York pitcher Masahiro Tanaka, Machado hit a 2-run home run to make the score 3-1, Maui. For the day, he went 1 for 4 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once.
In postgame comments to the Maui Chronicle, Machado said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
