6-5 Win Gets Maui to 82-57
|
Maui beat Chicago at DK Memorial Field, escaping with a 6-5 win. The win in large part was due to catcher Yasmani Grandal. He was 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. Dustin May earned the win after being called from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 2.2 innings. He upped his record to 5-0. The first-place Mavericks, at 82-57, now lead their division by 3½ games.
A key moment came with one out in the bottom of the fifth. That's when Grandal hit a fastball from Jose Quintana for a 3-run home run, putting Maui up, 6-5.
"It wasn't our best performance," said Grandal, "but a win in this league is nothing to sniff at."
