World Series Game 1 Victory for Flaherty and Maui
|
The Maui Mavericks started the World Series in dominant fashion today, blowing out the visiting New York Thunder Choppers at DK Memorial Field by a score of 10-2 and securing an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Mavericks right-hander Jack Flaherty turned in a fine performance. He threw 7 innings allowing 2 runs.
In the bottom of the first, Maui left fielder Juan Soto had a productive at-bat. With a runner on 1st and one out, Soto stroked a 2-run home run to left. It made the score 2-0, Maui. For the game, he went 1 for 4 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2.
"We maximized our offense today," said Maui skipper . "That makes everyone's life easier."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at DK Memorial Field in Wailuku. Slated to start are Shane Bieber for New York and Stephen Strasburg for Maui.
