Big Day for Merrifield: Swats 5 Hits Monday, August 31st, 2020 Whit Merrifield exploded for a barrage of base hits today at The Landing Pad. The New York second baseman had a field day in the 24-4 triumph over the Chicago Komodos, finishing 5-for-7. "My hitting philosophy is simple," he said. "I focus on just seeing the ball and I try to get a good pitch." Merrifield must have focused at least 5 times and apparently got some good pitches, too, leading to one of his best days ever with the bat. Whit Merrifield doubled in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 2nd, hit an RBI double in the 3rd, hit an RBI double in the 4th, struck out in the 6th, struck out in the 7th and hit a three-run triple in the 8th.
