5-Hit Barrage by Kunz Saturday, June 13th, 2020 It's not something you read about in the sports pages every day -- a 5-for-6 day. For many, it might come around only once in a career -- and for Justin Kunz, it came around today. The 23-year-old catcher scattered hits all over Veterans Memorial Stadium to pace the Burlington Bees to a 17-5 victory over the Cedar Rapids Kernels. Cedar Rapids skipper Brian Dinkelman told reporters in the press room that "Kunz deserves a hat-tip." "He hit some good pitches against us," he said. "In fact, according to our scouting reports, Kunz hit several that he is not supposed to be able to hit." Justin Kunz doubled in the 2nd, hit a three-run double in the 3rd, hit a two-run home run off Ryan Shreve in the 4th, struck out in the 6th, singled in the 8th and hit a solo-shot off David Banuelos in the 9th. A look at his current stats shows Kunz with a .317 average, 4 home runs, 14 RBIs and 9 runs scored. He has played in 20 games. |
