Millwood Throws No Hitter

Postby Kevin » Mon Apr 28, 2003 5:20 pm

Image On Sunday afternoon, Kevin Millwood became the first pitcher to throw a no hitter in the 2003 season. The Choppers hurler had the best outing of his career, blanking the San Francisco Giants in Philadelphia. Millwood dominated the game from start to finish, helping lead the Phillies to a 1-0 victory over the Giants. He struck out ten batters. His three walks were the only blemish on an otherwise perfect outing. Millwood forced Marquis Grissom to fly out to center to end the game in the ninth inning. It was his first career no-hitter. The Choppers acquired Millwood in a trade from the Gators in the spring of 2000, following his best DTBL season. He was mostly disappointing his first two years with the Choppers, winning just a combined sixteen games. He turned it up a notch in 2002, picking up 18 wins while posting impressive ERA, WHIP and strike out numbers. He is off to a fast start in 2003 as well with four wins and 33 strike outs in 33 2/3 innings pitched. Millwood highlighted a great week for Choppers' starting pitchers. The rotation started six games, all of which were 7+ innings pitched with two or less runs allowed. Four resulted in wins. The Choppers are currently in fourth place, but are just seven points behind the leading Moonshiners.
