Hernandez Rips West Michigan for 5 Hits
Friday, July 10th, 2020
Great Lakes catcher Marco Hernandez had a fantastic day at the plate at Fifth Third Ballpark today, knocking out 5 hits and pacing his club to a 16-9 victory.

"It was like I was hitting Little League pitching," Hernandez said after his 5-for-6 performance against the Whitecaps. "No offense meant to West Michigan, but it was like I was back in little league again -- I could see the ball that well. But this wasn't a kid park, it was Fifth Third Ballpark."

After the game, his manager elaborated on the catcher's improvements, saying Hernandez spent the offseason trying to shorten his swing and stay inside the ball.

"That's what I'm trying to do," Hernandez said. "Be quick to the ball and let it travel a little farther so I get a better look at it."

Marco Hernandez hit an RBI single in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 4th, singled in the 6th, hit a solo-shot off Chance Kirby in the 8th and struck out in the 9th.

So far this season Hernandez is batting .277 with 2 home runs, 22 RBIs and 17 runs scored. He has 39 hits in 141 at-bats, 15 walks and a .350 OBP. Hernandez has played in 40 games.
