Betts, Kings Clobber Thunder Choppers, 10-1
|
The Virginia Kings topped the New York Thunder Choppers, 10-1, with right fielder Mookie Betts playing a big role. Betts hit 2 home runs, while adding 5 RBI and scoring twice for the Kings in the win. Max Scherzer, who went 5.1 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 1 run on 7 hits, while walking 1 and striking out 5. His record now stands at 12-11. The win elevated the Kings to 78-73.
The game turned with one out in the top of the fourth when Betts, who finished 2nd in the L1 in OPS with 1.078 in 2018, hit a 3-run home run. It propelled the Kings into the lead, 4-1.
Betts said his wife shared good advice with him before the game. "She said, 'Don't allow this game to make you mad.' When I thought about it, I realized this is just a game. I was able to relax at the plate."
