Nationals Jolt Cubs, 10-5, with Late Rally
|
The Washington Nationals overcame a fine performance by Chicago first baseman Anthony Rizzo to defeat the Cubs, 10-5, at Wrigley Field. Rizzo was 2 for 5 with 2 home runs. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice. Daniel Hudson, now 1-0, was credited with the win. He allowed no runs on 1 hit, while striking out 1 and walking 0. The win gives Washington a season record of 21-15.
Washington used a timely hit from Yan Gomes to get the win. The catcher stroked a 2-run double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Nationals ahead, 6-4. It was his only hit in 2 at-bats, but it made an impact.
Gomes told a Washington Observer reporter that he was "satisfied" with the win.
