Pirates Top Washington, 4-3
|
The Washington Nationals got a superb performance from pitcher Max Scherzer. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Pittsburgh. The Pirates won the game, 4-3. Scherzer threw 5 innings of 4-hit ball. The win belongs to Edgar Santana in relief. His record improves to 4-1. Sean Doolittle took the loss for Washington. Keone Kela was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 12 of 16 save opportunities.
JT Riddle, the 28-year old shortstop , had a direct impact on the outcome. Riddle contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the fourth inning to put Pittsburgh up, 3-2.
"We put together a nice win," Riddle said.
With the win, Pittsburgh raised its record to 40-39.
