Alvarez Goes Deep Twice in 7-5 Astros Win
|
The Houston Astros downed the Cleveland Indians, 7-5, at Progressive Field. Yordan Alvarez led the way, going 2-for-4 for Houston. The winner was Framber Valdez, who threw 96 pitches over 5 innings. The left-hander was charged with 4 runs on 9 hits. Roberto Osuna notched his 8th save in 9 chances.
Alvarez contributed a big hit, a 3-run home run, for Houston in the top of the fifth. With his team trailing 4-3, Alvarez took a fastball from Mike Clevinger and stroked the home run to center. His 26th home run of the season allowed the Astros to leap in front, 6-4.
"You know, at the end of the day, it's about who scores the most runs," said Houston manager Dusty Baker.
Houston goes to 55-31. The win puts them 5½ games up in their division.
