Smashing Success: Thames Wallops 3 HR Sunday, May 24th, 2020 Eric Thames went on an explosive hitting spree against the Miami Marlins at Nationals Park today, launching a trio of blasts to lead the Washington Nationals to the 12-10 win. The first baseman finished 3-for-4 with 3 runs scored and 6 runs batted in. "It was just one of those days," Thames said in a postgame interview. "I don't know how to explain it. I'm just putting a good swing on the ball." Miami skipper Don Mattingly said Thames was "locked-in." "We made some pretty good pitches," he said. "Those first two homers were exactly where the pitcher wanted to put them. He's just hot right now -- you've just got to tip your hat to him." Eric Thames grounded out in the 1st, walked in the 3rd, hit a solo-shot off Mark Lowe in the 5th, hit a two-run home run off Pat Venditte in the 7th and hit a three-run home run off Ryne Stanek in the 8th. This year Thames is batting .162 with 3 home runs. He has scored 12 runs and driven in 12. |
