Cougars Drop 7-2 Decision to Mavericks
|
The Maui Mavericks topped the Indiana Cougars, 7-2, in Dream Team Baseball League action at Cougar Coliseum. The standout performance belonged to Maui pitcher and San Diego, California, native Stephen Strasburg. Strasburg got the win, improving to 8-4. He allowed 8 hits and walked 0 over 8.1 innings. Strasburg allowed 2 runs. Kenley Jansen notched his 10th save in 13 chances.
The Mavericks took the lead in the top of the fifth. With one out, Juan Soto hit a 2-run home run off Indiana pitcher Lucas Giolito, putting Maui in front, 6-2. For the game, Soto went 2-4 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once.
"We played hard and won," said Strasburg. "Sometimes, baseball really is that easy.'
Maui has now won 3 straight, while the Cougars have lost 3 in a row.
