Mets Stun Phillies, 4-1
|
The Mets grabbed a win, 4-1, at Citizens Bank Park, overcoming a fine effort from Philadelphia pitcher Aaron Nola. Nola went 7 innings and allowed 1 run. The save went to Dellin Betances, number 2 for him. The Phillies, now 30-25, have lost 5 straight.
New York used the clutch hitting of Yoenis Cespedes to capture the win. The left fielder drilled a 3-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Mets ahead, 4-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a big one.
"We're scuffling right now," said losing manager Joe Girardi.
